Thomas Rhett Akins, Jr. is an American country music singer and songwriter. He is the son of the singer Rhett Akins and grew up knowing other major influencers of country music such as Tim McGraw and Brook & Dunn. His early exposure to not only music, but also live performances served as a major influence to continue in his father’s footsteps. When his father was on tour, he would often bring Thomas on stage to play the drums.
Thomas Rhett was born on March 30th, 1990 in Valdosta, Georgia . His father, Rhett Akins, toured for much of his childhood. In middle school, he began to learn how to play the drums, and eventually became a part of a small band in high school called the High Heeled Flip Flops.
Despite not knowing what type of career to pursue, Thomas attended college at Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee. There, he played at fraternity parties in Georgia and Tennessee, which taught him how to handle a crowd and develop his unique style of rock, rap, and country. Once he decided that he wanted to pursue a career in music, Thomas dropped out of college when he was 20.
Thomas Rhett began making his name in the music industry by writing songs, including “I Ain’t Ready to Quit” on Jason Aldean’s 2010 album My Kinda Party. In early 2012, he released his debut singles “Something to do with My Hands” and “Beer with Jesus”, which made top 30 on the Hot Country Song charts. When he released his debut album It Goes Like This, he signed to Valory record labels.

Tangled Up (2015) - Rhett’s second album, which made its debut on September 25, 2015, and featured the hit singles “Crash and Burn” and “Die a Happy Man”. The album featured Jordin Sparks on “Playing with Fire” and LunchMoney Lewis on “I Feel Good”. Tangled Up debuted on the Billboard 200 at No.6 and reached No. 2 on the Top Country Albums chart in its fourth week. The album was certified Platinum by the RIAA on September 20, 2016.
Life Changes (2017) - Thomas Rhett’s most recent album, Life Changes, was released on September 8, 2017. The album featured three singles: “Craving You” featuring Maren Morris, “Unforgettable”, and “Marry Me”. His father Rhett Akins was also featured on the song “Drink a Little Beer”. The album debuted as the first number one country album on the Billboard 200, giving Rhett his first chart-topping album, and was nominated for a Grammy for best country album.
Thomas Rhett married Lauren Akins, who he knew since the 1st grade in 2012. Together, they adopted a baby girl from Uganda named Willa Gray Akins, and Lauren just gave birth to their second daughter, Ada James Akins, in August 2017.
