Ozuna, born as Juan Carlos Ozuna Rosado, is a Puerto Rican reggaetón and Latin trap singer. Throughout the 2000s decade and during his college career in New York City, he found great inspiration for his musical career.
Ozuna was born March 13, 1992 in San Juan, Puerto Rico to a Dominican father and a Puerto Rican mother. He grew up very poor and was mainly raised by his paternal grandmother. His father, who worked as a dancer for a reggaetón pioneer Vico C, was fatally shot when Ozuna was three, while is mother was not financially stable enough to raise him. He began writing songs at age 13, and made his debut as a singer in 2012 with the song “Imaginando”.
In 2014, Ozuna signed a recording contract with Golden Family Records and began to publish his songs on YoutTube. During the same year, he started his ongoing popular streak with the song “Si No Te Quiere”, which was a big success on the radio and eventually became well known across Latin America. This accomplishment is what helped bring success to Ozuna across the Latin America region.
At the beginning of 2016, Ozuna became well known for his appearance in the single “La Occasion”, a collaboration with DJ Luian, Mambo Kingz, De La Ghetto, Arcangel, and Anuel AAA, which reached number 22 on the Hot Latin Songs chart. Following, he released a remix of his song “No Quiere Enamorarse”, which featured Daddy Yankee. His major breakthrough came a few months later in September, where he released his most popular single to date: “Dile Que Tu Me Quieres”, which earned him a place at number 13 on the Billboard Latin chart at the end of the year.
Odisea (2017) - His debut album was released in August of 2017 by VP Records and Sony Music Latin. The collection of slow james, R&B, reggaetón and Latin trap (“Una Flor”) bring about a completely unique sound and Latin vibe, which made his first full length album a great success. The album features a number of popular Latin artists, such as: Nicky Jam, Zion & Lennox, J Balvin, De La Ghetto, and Anuel AA. The most popular song is Ozuna’s hit single, “Se Preparo”, which received great reviews. The album was a huge success for Ozuna: it reached number 22 on US Billboard top 200 and number one on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums and went certified RIAA Platinum six times. Additionally, the Odisea was nominated for Top Latin Album at the Billboard Music Awards and won.
Ozuna’s success has led him to contribute much of his time to helping those in need through his charity Odisea Children. He claims that he finds people to help both through social media and from his friends, and has more recently began to help people recover from the devastation caused by Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico. Aside from his charity work, Ozuna prefers to keep his personal life as private as possible. He is married to Marie Melendez, and have two children together: a son named Jacob, and a daughter named Sofia.
Ozuna is set to go on tour to promote his upcoming album “Aura” on September 7 in Atlanta. The tour features over 29 major cities such as New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Miami. This tour will be Ozuna’s third U.S. tour this year alone, and tickets are expected to go fast.
