About Elf - The Musical

When he was just a baby, William “Buddy” Hobbs made his way into Santa Claus’s bag of gifts. Santa doesn’t realize this and accidentally brings the baby back to the North Pole. After the discovery of the baby, Santa and his elves decide to raise it as one of their own. As years pass by and Buddy grows oddly compared to the other elves, he finally finds out that he’s actually a human.
With permission from Santa, Buddy goes to New York City in search for his biological father, Walter Hobbs. However, he finds his father refusing Buddy into his life while also being on the naughty list. Walter’s younger son, Michael, also doesn’t believe in Santa. With the power vested in Buddy as a former elf, Buddy ambitiously tries his best to spread the holiday spirit and bring his family together. History of Production
In November of 2010, Elf the Musical opened up for a limited run at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre on Broadway. With its opening, the production broke three box office records and became the third best-grossing show for Thanksgiving weekend as it grossed over a million dollars in one week. Due to the seasonality of the musical, it ran only until the beginning of January 2011.
The success of the musical made its way back a second round as a revival during the 2012 holiday season. The production returned to the same Broadway stage, however, with a revised book and a different opening song. From 2012 to 2017, Elf the Musical toured across North America during the holiday season. In December of 2014, the musical was adapted into a stop-motion television special.
