About Wilco
Wilco was formed in 1994 after Uncle Tupelo disbanded. Former members Jeff Tweedy, John Stirratt, Ken Coomer, and Max Johnston reorganized to form a new band along with Brian Henneman. Wilco was signed to Reprise Records in 1995, and released their first album, A.M., in March of that year. The album sold about 150,000 copies, peaking at number twenty-seven on the Billboard Heatseeker's chart. These days, Wilco shows sell out quickly! Wilco's next album, Being There, was released in October of 1996. It achieved Gold Certification and reached number seventy-three on the Billboard album charts. At this time, the band faced some changes. Violinist Max Johnston left, and Bob Egan, who played pedal steel guitar, joined Wilco. Heading back to the studio, Wilco produced their next album, Mermaid Avenue, in June of 1998. Mermaid Avenue sold more than 277,000 copies, and was nominated for a Grammy for Best Contemporary Folk Album.
Next, Wilco created Mermaid Avenue Vol. II (2000), and Yankee Hotel Foxtrot (2002). Yankee Hotel Foxtrot was Wilco's best selling album to date, with over 590,000 copies sold, and was named one of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time by Rolling Stone Magazine. Sam Jones documented the recording of Yankee Hotel Foxtrot in the film I Am Trying to Break Your Heart (2002). The next albums released by Wilco were all very successful for the band.
