When Counting Crows first formed they were just a group of unknown musicians who came together in 1993. After spending time playing gigs around the San Francisco area, Counting Crows was signed to Geffen Records, their first major recording deal. Their introduction to the world came that same year when they filled in for Van Morrison at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremonies, where they opened many eyes across the music world. Soon after their appearance they began recording their debut album August and Everything After, which was released by the Counting Crows in the fall of 1993.
With the release of Counting Crows first single 'Mr. Jones', came immediate success. The track rose to #2 on Billboard's US Modern Rock Chart and helped their debut album reach platinum status, eventually selling over seven million copies. Their other singles 'Round Here' and 'Rain King' reached the Top 10 and helped solidify the Counting Crows as not just a one hit wonder but one of the most popular bands of the time. They thrived on their live music and have toured with the likes of The Rolling Stones and Maroon 5.
