With her mother accompanying her to the auditions, Carrie Underwood went in front of the auditions and by the time she had finished judge Simon Cowell predicted that she would not only win the entire competition but outsell all previous Idol winners. Simon was right; she won American Idol that year and has gone on to sell more records then her predecessors on popular show.
Following her win on American Idol, Carrie Underwood released her debut album in 2005 entitled Some Hearts. The album was the top selling female country album in 2005, 2006 and 2007, and she has seen the album be certified six times platinum. The lead single off of Some Hearts was "Jesus, Take the Wheel" which was a major success spending six weeks as number one on Billboards Hot Country Songs chart. The song also landed Carrie Underwood many awards in 2007 highlighted by three Grammy Award nominations and two wins for Best Female Country Vocal Performance and Best Country Song. 2008 may also be a great award season for Carrie Underwood, as her single Before He Cheats off of her Some Hearts album is nominated for three Grammy Awards itself.
