About American Idols Live!
American Idols Live! is the concert tour that was created to support the television show, American Idol. Each summer, the top 10 contestants from American Idol go out and perform in about 50 cities around the United States. The 2008 American Idols Live! tour will include winner, David Cook, and contestants Carly Smithson, Brooke White, Syesha Mercado, David Archuleta, Jason Castro, Chikezie Eze, Kristy Lee Cook, Michael Johns, and Ramiele Malubay. In the past, the American Idols Live! tour has included musical superstars Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Chris Daughtry, and Jordin Sparks.
The American Idol season starts out where judges Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, and Randy Jackson visit numerous cities throughout the United States in search of new contestants which will move on to Hollywood to further compete to be the next "American Idol". Cities where auditions have taken place over the past 7 seasons include New York, NY, Los Angeles, CA, Atlanta, GA, Houston, TX, and Miami, FL. Once the chosen contestants have arrived in Hollywood, they compete over several days where many more are eliminated. Starting in 2008, American Idol contestants were allowed to perform with a musical instrument if they were able.
During the semifinals, contestants are split up according to gender and perform on alternating nights. Each night, viewers have the option to call into American Idol and vote for their favorite American Idol contestant. The performance show would be followed by a results show the next evening where host Ryan Seacrest announces which contestant has been eliminated from the competition and will be going home. The semifinals narrow the group of contestants down to 12 contestants. Following the American Idol semifinals is the American Idol final which lasts a total eleven weeks. During those eleven weeks, the American Idol contestants perform each week while America continues to vote. In previous years, the American Idol finale was held at the Kodak Theatre which holds up to 3,400 people. In 2008, the American Idol finale was moved to the Nokia Theatre which can hold up to 7,000. The winner of American Idol receives a one million dollar record contract with a major record label.
